Fort Liard
  • The Fort Liard water treatment system was built in 1989.
  • The system contains 2 water wells, a raw transmission line to the plant, treatment, storage and a water distribution system.
  • The raw water transmission is composed of a galvanized steel casing pipe with a smaller galvanized steel pump connected to a vertical turbine pump. The water then travels through 2 insulated HDPE pipes into the treatment plant.
  • Chlorine is added pre-filtration as well as potassium permanganate to aid in the filtration.

  • The water is then transferred into storage tanks where additional chlorine is added to prevent bacterial growth in the tanks.
  • The truckfill station is operated by the truck driver via a on/off switch on the outside of the building. The water is pushed through two centrifugal pumps and additional chlorine is added in the truckfill arm.
  • The community owns 2 water trucks, with capacities of 1100 litres and 5000 litres.
