Sachs Harbour
- The community water supply system upgrade project was completed in 2005.
- The community obtains its drinking water from Water Lake.
- They use a single inclined shaft intake that consists of insulated HDPE casing pipe with submersible pump inside the casing (below the lake water level) and a heat trace system to prevent freezing.
- The original 115 m intake was extended an additional 30 m (total
125 m). A new truckfill station complete with cartridge filtration,
liquid chlorine disinfection and a backup generator was installed as
part of the upgrade project. The cartridge filtration system consists
of three sets of Harmsco cartridge filters: the first filter set is 10
micron, the second is 1 micron (absolute) and the third is 0.35 micron.
- The water truck driver fills the truck using a button on the
outside of the truckfill station. This button activates the submersible
pump in the intake. The pump pushes raw water from the lake through the
cartridge filters, out the truckfill arm and into the truck. The water
activates a flow switch in the truckfill arm, which automatically turns
on the chlorine injection pump. The chlorine injection pump adds liquid
chlorine to the water as it passes through the truckfill arm into the
water delivery truck.
- The community has two water delivery trucks, each with a 4500 litre tank.
