The Fort Smith Health Centre is over 30 years old and a major mid-life retrofit is required and is currently underway. The contract for this retrofit was awarded to CAB Construction Ltd. of Fort Smith in August 2010.
Phase 1 of the renovations is underway in the west wing patient area and the basement of the facility. This phase of the project is to be completed in September 2012, with the overall project scheduled for completion by November 2013.
In addition to the renovations PWS commissioned the installation of a 750 kW wood pellet boiler. The estimated fuel oil savings will total approximately 200,000 litres annually with GHG emissions expected to be reduced by 546 tonnes each year.
