Fort Smith Northern Lights Special Care Home
Client: Department of Health and Social Services
Contractor: CAB Construction Ltd.
Construction Cost: $6,989,663
The Northern Lights Special Care Home in Fort Smith, which is owned by the GNWT and maintained by PWS, was recently renovated.
The renovations included updating the existing building along with the construction of a new addition for dementia clients.
PWS has engaged NTPC to add interruptible power for the purpose of supplementing the existing fuel oil boilers. PWS has awarded a contract for 330K to JSL Mechanical for the installation of a 400 kW electric boiler. Target completion is October 2012.
This electric boiler could carry 100% of the heating load in the facility and would help offset close to 77,000 litres of fuel oil annually and reduce GHG emission by almost 210 tonnes each year. That is equivalent to removing 42 cars from the road.
